288 driver types

I am getting ready to buy some 288 drivers and wonder if anyone can help with what suffix I should look for.

Someone told me the 288G?s are the last of the Alnico magnets and are the best but these are hard to find and am not sure if this is true.

Also, are there any datasheets that show actual audio differences between the suffixes.

The 288g's are also the most expensive. The C's are the older style and are more affordable. Another option to save money in terms of the C's is to get blown 291's and put new aluminum diaphragms (or pascalite)in from GPA. there are some here that can give you more detailed info on many of the options available including ceramic drivers.

Does anyone know if the 288G has a different diaphram than the previous 288s?

Also, is the magnet any different?

What is the difference between the diaphrams on a 288G vs 291A vs 299A?

I know Jim Dickanson did a summary of small Altec driver differences accross the suffixes. Does anyone know if he or someone else did a similar one for the large format drivers?

Please help me. I promise to be a good Hostboard member.
